Hi everyone,

Looks like Im now a victim of Ford Taurus Head Gasket problem.

I have a 94 Ford Taurus with the famous 3.8 Engine, which seems to be nothing but trouble from what I reading page after page on the internet.

Two years ago at 60,000 miles..I had to replace the piston in the Transmission, Engine Mounts and now this problem at 85,000 miles.

Ford recognized they had a problem where they were honoring any 94 Taurus with 7 years or 100,000 miles on a letter they had sent out in March of 2000.

Called them up, but, I had moved out of State and never was notified there was any problem until basically I became a victim of being a Ford Taurus owner again.. Ford will not honor that recall..does anyone have any sugguestions how I can force Fords hand.

How much is this going to cost to fix?? Or should I junk this lemon and move on.
Could this repair be done by a home mechanic??

Also, friends have told me that there are Engine Block sealers..do they work????

Appreciate any and all feedback.

Broken down again!!!!! and totally disgusted with Ford Customer Service.

I just replaced my head gasket on my 99 3.0 and was quoted 900-1100 for a shop to do it, we did it in 2 days (could be done in one 10 hour day as long as you have all the parts) but had to wait for head bolts. I did some searching on block sealers and it seems Bar's is the brand to go with. I have read MANY posts about it on cars such as Jag, Porsche, GM, Ford, and Honda and all had great luck with it. Like I said I just replaced my head gaskets and to be sure..im using it to make sure there are no cracks or leaks. Their web site is http://www.barsproducts.com and if you do a Google search for "block sealers" or such..or one for "bars block sealer" you should come up with forum postings that say how well they like it. The thing I like is you dont have to flush your radiator after like alot of them, but they do recommend it before. Hope it helps, best of luck!

Have you been to these sites?

In on of them, there's was some info on how to get into a class action suit against ford, but I don't know how dated that info is... Good luck with the car. Though should mine ever blow, I'm just going to get another car- the job for the headgasket on a 3.8 costs just about as much as the car itself these days...

Or you could do it yourself for about $100 in parts. I did it myself. Just keep everything labeled, take pictures if necessary, and tear down to the block.
