I bought this 1998 Sable a few years ago and the only work I had done was some brakes. When I took off the front tire to look at the work they did I notice this harden plastic piece attached to the shocks.I was only charged for brake related work so I do not know if they put that on or if it was there when I bought it.My question,is this safe or should I have it replaced? It looks new so I can not figure why that shop would use this instead of charging me for the right new one. Thanks

It's a sway bar end link. Believe it or not, the factory stock ones are plastic. Completely safe.

Thanks danhasenauer for your quick reply and yes it is hard to believe that it is as good as the original, but it's safe so I'll just leave it.

It may BE the original, depending on where you live. At least they can't rust. Aftermarket ones can be had in metal or plastic.
