I have a 01 Sable LS with the Duratec v6 that is hard to start first thing in the morning. Hope Sable questions or OK.

Thinking that maybe the fuel pressure is not holding overnight I cycled the ignition 3 or 4 times to run the pump. Still will require a long crank - stop and then recrank to start ?? Sometimes three cranks.

After the engine starts it runs fine and will restart normally all day ??

I have a code reader and - no codes. Car has been unbelievably reliable -- its has 230k on it :) - I'm the original owner.

Any ideas?

Possible IAC sticking shut on first start of the day? Maybe pull IAC, clean it out and see if it makes any difference.

When was the last time you replaced you fuel filter? If its more than 33K miles I would suggest replacing it. The engine will have problems starting if fuel is not building to the correct pressure.

This may be most noticeable as the car sits overnight and the pressure drops to zero or near zero.

Major drop in fuel pressure indicates a bad part...regulator, pump, or injector. All act as closed valves when the engine is shut off.
