Gutting Cats On A 96 Sable W/vulcan

on my 96 sable with 3.0L vulcan
I am going to be removing both my cats from the exhaust.
I know i know. pollution laws.. well there are no laws here..
I know i will probably get the check engine light after i do this,
but will doing this effect the way the sable runs?? i know cats are very restrictive..
after i gut them i will only have a Cherry-bomb where the resonator used to be..
no muffler in the back. just split pipes on each side kicked out behind each back wheel.
with the cats removed i hope to achieve a powerful sound..
don't tell me i need to get a flowmaster or something like that. We run glasspacks here.. Flow-chickens are for richies in these woods :)
J/k
anyways. will my car run normal after i do this.. maybe better???
thnks for your help guys.. ill post my picks of my street sable soon :D

i wont be buying the o2 mil illiminators.
i will have to put the gutted ones back on.. we do have visual checks every once in a blue moon.
could i use flex-pipe in their place?? thats easy to do, but does it last??
im also concerned about the sound..
i used to have straight pipe after the 2 convertors.. i liked the sound.. but a little ricey..
given the fact that i added a cherrybomb glasspack where the resinator used to be, gut the converters and leave them on, and have no other muffler after the glasspack, how would this sound compare to my old setup with the 2 cats and no muffler at all?
would it be deeper and louder???
You should also worry about not having enough back pressure in your exhaust system. My Vulcan is running a Flowmaster without resonator and hitting high rpms causes mine to knock sometimes. I run 93 octane in my car too.
actually i need to take the cats off.
they are breaking loose inside and i can hear them rattle when i hit them.
dont want them to get stopped up on the interstate.. :(

im not worried about valve noise due to low back pressure.
the glasspack should be sufficient for that.
now if i had true straight pipes or just run off manifolds, i would have a problem.
ur rattle may be due to high temp plugs. or bad gas.

Im just looking for that special sound.
maybe a little performance.
i can live with a check engine light..
what would you do in my situation?

hey thats a good idea,, u should patent that lol :)
im really concerened about how the sound will be after i remove them. anyone done this thing before with a glasspack cherrybomb?
how u think it would sound compared to my old setup..

Im thinking you might lose a little of your bottom end power, but get some good gains in the top end (when the vulcans crap their pants). You might develop a bit of a raspy sound at upper rpms, but its gonna be loud as sin. Good luck man, and post some sound bytes! B)
ill try.. thanks for the help
umm...detonation (knock) is not valve noise...its the noise you hear when your engine is combusting the contents in the cylendar too early and causing damage to your engine.

I dont know the relationship between less back pressure and detonation, but if its true, thats damaging.

Brad
well, on older cars, they didnt have cats and some run just turndowns
no backpressure at all. no knock or anything.

my car knocked when it was stock and i used cheap gas.
