Hey all -

I've got a '95 sedan with the 3.0 motor.

I've just noticed that when I engage a gear and hold it on the brake pedal, I get a loud grinding/rattling from around the serpentine belt. It doesn't happen in park/neutral, and when I let off the brake and drive off it goes away.

It kind of sounds like a bearing......but why would it only happen in gear? I replaced the water pump maybe 6 months ago, and the serpentine is fairly new as well. I don't know how long it's been doing this: I only heard it by chance when the car was being parked one day.

I REALLY hope it's not the water pump.....I never want to do that job again.:( It's not leaking though.

Any ideas appreciated!!

Maybe pop the hood and have someone watch while you hold the brake and put it into gear to see if they can isolate the noise. Could be the upper engine torque arm bracket is loose causing the engine to move when it's under load??

Thanks Kevin -

Actually, the engine moves a lot when I put it into gear: forwards for Drive and backwards for reverse(!).

Dies this mean that the engine mountings are shot?
