Ok, so I was talking to my cousin a couple months ago and I don't know how we got to talk about it, but he told me that he might have a set of speakers that his parents don't want anymore. He said that they got an aftermarket stereo for their old Escort (after the stock one failed) and they got a set of Pioneer speakers for free. Since they have no use for it, he's gonna give them to me. They're brand new in the box, never been used! Well, I got them last week and they will work in my car!

So, I got some plastic rivets from Ford for $12. NEVER buy the crappy ones from parts stores! Napa and Ford's rivets are a little softer and bend a little bit when going into the door panel. The other ones are so brittle, the break when I put them into the door panel!
Old speaker:

New speaker:

The holes on the speaker mounting bracket was slightly off so I only used two screws to hold it in, but I made sure that they were TIGHT! The harness scared me for a second, but then I figured, I'll just splice the new connectors onto the old wiring. I didn't feel like rewiring the car anyways. The speakers sound awesome! I was comparing the passenger side one (replaced first) with the driver's side one (with the stock speaker) and the Pioneer was definatly clearer. It made the stock one sound muffled. I also adjusted my passenger side door lock to the same height as the driver's side lock!
I was pretty happy until I worked on the driver's door. I thought I was being careful not to break anything (except the rivets) and not to cut myself. But then once I got the driver's door panel off, I was so f***ing pissed!

The damn panel broke before the damn rivets! I was so pissed! I was freaking out because I thought I was gonna have to shell out money for a new (old) door panel (from the junkyard). My dad gave me the old "If it ain't broke, don't touch it" lecture about how I should have left my car alone and that the speakers were fine already. But even after the lecture, he helped me fix my door panel by hot gluing the plastic back on (should have used Super Glue, but it's too late now). So I get the speaker in and put it together and I'm relativly happy.
BTW, does anyone know what that wiring harness next to the light is for? It doesn't connect to anything and it's just inside the door. The passenger side didn't have it. I know it's not the power locks, power windows, or power mirrors since I know they go to the switches. And that reminds me. My passenger side power window switch is dead. I gotta get one from the junkyard or something.
