So I decided that i'm getting a newer car.. and after hours of searching, i've narrowed it down to 3 potential cars.

This one is my favorite, it's a 2000 SEL 61k, fully loaded, leather seats, they're asking 8,750

This one i really want to, especially after having a sable. It's a 2001 LSP, fully loaded, 39k, warranty and they're asking 8,950 or best offer...

I really like the color on this one...It's a 2002 SES, fully loaded, no leather seats, 45k and they're asking 7,200

what do you guys think?? Are any of them good deals? Thanks for your time!!

Just doing a cursory check, Jerome-Duncan Ford has a 2001 LSP with higher mileage for about 500 less than the one you're looking at. In other words, that's a good price, but seems a bit high if it's a private sale. If you like that one, I'd offer $8450 & see what they say. You've got to figure that you could talk down the dealer a bit or get a 100000mi warranty thrown in.

The SEL looks nice with the leather & sunroof, but again, it's just under $2000 more than the much newer 2002 SES that also has 15000mi less.

So, if I were you, I'd probably go for the 2002SES or I'd go in & offer $8400 on the Sable.

Keep us posted!

its inpossible for anyone to no witch one of thes cars is the better deal without checking them out from top to bottom, and knowing the maintanence and histery of the cars.
prices look average with room for dealing.
If you are noligible about cars still have the car checked out buy a professional . Buying a car can cloud your mind, and its easy to miss problems. I no this first hand

PS there are a ton of these cars on the used market don't get atached to any on. Aspecialy if you have a working car now. You can be picky.

personally i would go with the blue one. the 2001 is overpriced, well at least where i live it would be. I bought my 01 ses with 34k for $8400. And that was at a dealer, the same car with a private seller, and i prolly could have gotten it for a grand less.

I would go with the Sable generally speaking - mainly because of low miles plus I love leather.
But as said above, you should have them checked out mechanically - if they have a warranty it isn't quite as big of a deal, but still should be looked at. Best of luck!

Ok, I went to NADA.Com and looked at the Sable's values. According to them, the Sable's trade in price is 9,850. Retail would be 11,925.

Ebay sold a LSP similar at
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2449490841 , a slightly better deal.

They said best offer, I would try $8400 and see what he says. He may come back saying $8500. Or better yet, print that ebay page out and take it with you when you make the offer. See if he will at least match that price. Of course, have it checked out.

thanks guys for all of your replies!! i appreicate all of your voices and opinions! and i'm going to let you all know that stated it, i am going to be looking at the cars, checking them out and making sure that they're mechanically sound. I'm most likely going to get (if i'm lucky) the sable or the taurus ses. I know a lot about cars, and taurus' for that matter, so i know all the right questions to ask. Plus, i have the bonus of a mechanic thats looked every car that i've ever owned that works for Ford. So he's coming with me. I hope for the best. Jason, i like Leather too lol. Thats why i'm leaning more towards the sable.

I am going to throw my hat on the Sable. I mean come on look at that thing it is pure class. White cars suck and not having leather sucks also. The beige/tan colour is kinda old-people-ish but it still looks great, least its not white lol.

Taking a mechanic along is a good way to scare the dealer for one. If you can, bring one, or even a co-op or anyone you know who knows a lot about fixing cars. It helps. I brought a friend from school that was in a mechanics co-op program, he helped out a lot when I test drove the car and it broke down on the test drive...dealer knocked $2000 off right there. Just a battery and alternator.

Anyone who has leather and doesn't like it is welcome to my leather/cloth hybrid seats any time, just let me know and I will do all the work.

Not really up on my Gen 4 trim levels. Are these all Tec's?

Besides that, I don't like the blue, it doesn't look like that color belongs on a Taurus. I like the white one, although it is a little bland. If it were me, I'd get the Sable, or even better, hold out for a black Sable.

If I were going to buy another taurus/sable (not very likely at all), I would choose the blue one for the fact that it is 2002. The 2000 may have some first year bugs which could have also spilled over to 2001. That's just my opinion.

yup, they're all 'tecs - the SEL's get one automatically, it's optional with the SES (hence mine having a vulcan) and I don't know about the Sable, but I see the badge, lol.

I'd go with the Blue one. I'm partial to blue, the color looks hot on it. It also seems like it has the best price, and 45K is really not that much. It's likely mostly highway driving that pushed it up. Just get a tranny cooler and a shift kit and some new fluid and you'll be cool.

I'd have them checked out by a local service department, which ever one gets the cleanest bill of health, its your car. I do not personally like white (prefer the blue color but not that car) but the top one is probably my favorite. Given that its white, I'd go with the Sable instead.

My vote is for the 2002 SES good price, nice color (although I prefer black), and as Elliot said miles are probably highway miles, the 2000 SEL is over priced, and I am really not a fan of the rear-end on the Sables (ducking the right cross) unless you get a spoiler for it, something to break up the drooping lines.

Or...since this doesn't seem to be an urgent matter, spend more time looking around, and find one that had everything you want.
