I am building up a 2008 Taurus SEL to be used as an Open Road Racer for use at the Big Bend Open Road Race or Sandhills Open Road Challenge or Silver State Classic Challenge. Working to get car complete so that my driver can take a "The Drivers Edge" training class at Motorsport Ranch in Cresson, TX in four weeks.
Steps accomplished so far:
  • Transmission Cooler - Hayden 689 - with Synthetic Transmission Fluid Flush
  • 18x7.5 Wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 235/50x18 101Y Tires
  • Driver and Navigator iPad and Mount
  • Driver Dual Skypro XGPS160 GPS Receiver with Mob Armor Mount
  • GoPro Hero 7 Black with headrest mount
  • OBDLink MX+
  • Dash Command App
Many Updates to come this next month. Work towards getting into first race in April 2020. Tough to get in the field.

  • Add Veepeak OBD2 BLE device for use with Track Addict. Will use OBDLink when using DashCommand. Crazy to need two. But I like Racerender (Track Addict - does not support OBDLink MX+ Bluetooth with IOS - provides telemetry matching GoPro Video). And I like DashCommand (does not support Veepeak)

  • Installed Simpson 6 point harnesses
  • Added four more Dual SkyPro XGPS160 GPS receivers to be used by Solution Engines
  • Added three iPhone 6S+ and two iPhone 6s for Solution Engines with cupholder, proclip and velcro mounts
Installing the harnesses was not too bad. I used 17 3" 5/16" Stainless Quick Links attached to the car seat tether hard points behind rear seat. Those are used for the shoulder harnesses.
I used Schroth Bolt In B23A Snap On Kits underneath the front seats at the back under the mounting bolts. One forward plus 5 Quick Links for each of the anti-submarine belts and One behind plus 1 Quick Link for the lap belts. I threaded the outside lap belts between the plastic on the seat side and the seat itself. The harnesses each had clips which slid onto the Quick Links pretty easily. I then used a pair of shoe laces tied into a loop and looped around the head rest mount to attach to the shoulder belt Quick Link chain so that it would not fall down when the Shoulder belts were removed. Strong and I can easily remove them when not needed.
