What are some good pads and rotors for a 2013 ford taurus SEL AWD? I like the nice look of the grooved or drilled rotors but I don't want to spend any more than 300 or so for the set. Any suggestions and brand rotors and pads that will be responsive last a while and maybe cut down on brake dust?

you're welcome, I'd check prices on pads in your area. Their pads seem a bit pricey to me. The rotors are a heck of a deal though.
Yeah I area those rotors are a really good deal. Went to dealer today they said original rotors have warping and need replacing. I guess the last owner was either a last minute braker or red one foot on the brakes while driving. Some how they over heated. I'll definitely take a look around at pads. What do you recommend for quietest and smoothest? Ceramic maybe?

My preference would be ceramic. I have chrome wheels though. I like ceramic because they put out less brake dust

Tire rack also has good prices on slotted/drilled rotors and pads. Don't know how quality compares to the rotors at R1. All rotors have to meet min specs tho

Factory rotors are notorious for warping.

Most of us SHO owners have picked up the EBC's.
Yeah I notice these factory rotors are pretty cheap and thin and I love your '10 SHO. I can't believe that power! What's your 0-60 now? Must be nuts. :icon_cool:

I had extremely good luck with the RAYBESTOS Front 680758 rear 680686 Advanced Technology rotors Mill balanced, ceramic painted, real nice but inexpensive. For pads depends what you want I put Hawk PC (Performance Ceramic)pads and it fells like i doubled the size of my brakes that's what I wanted they have about 30% more stopping power than stock. I have had these on a 2010 limited and just installed on my 2014 limited

Oh one other BIG thing the Hawk pads make VERY LITTLE dust, I used them because my last car had chrome wheels and brake dust was never a problem

if you are wanting just a little more power than stock I have heard the Wagner Thermo Quiet pads are nice but have never installed them they are considerably cheaper than the Hawk pads

And my advice on the grooved / slotted rotors unless you buy the real nice ones like Brembo or EBC don't bother the cheap ones suck and make it take longer to stop your car. I have cracked a cross drilled rotor so I don't trust them anymore.

do the Raybestos and Hawk combo and you will be surprised how smooth & quiet your brakes are and how much more stopping power you have

and it will be under you budget the front rotors are about $50 each and the pads are about $95 for the front

rears are about $45 per rotor and $75 for the pads

also I put a set of these on as the Hawk brakes wont work with the factory drag reduction clips

my other advice is stop using rock auto they are expensive Amazon usually has the same parts with free shipping rotors are heavy

I used Brake Performance out of Southern California I got the full kit with slotted rotors and Ceramic pads. The Ceramic upgrade was only a little over $1.00 for the set. Total package was somewhere in the $350-$400 range but included the following....


Front AND Rear black zinc coated rotors. The coating is a rust preventative coating and although the pad surface contact area will wear away the rest of the rotor will keep the coating. They had an option for silver zinc or black zinc coating. I went with black to also give a sporty look.


Front AND rear Ceramic premium pads.


Hardware kit.........retention springs and pad to caliper shims. The retention springs are mounted on the top and the bottom of the front pads to keep enough tension on the pads to keep from riding the rotor but still allows pedal pressure to override the springs.

Factory rotors are notorious for warping.

Most of us SHO owners have picked up the EBC's.
One thing to think about on warped rotors factory or aftermarket the culprit usually is a stuck caliper guide pin both the gen 5 Taurus that I owned had this problem. I have started pulling apart the brakes every 12 moths or 24,000 miles and lubing the guide pins. On my 2010 at 58,000 miles the rears guide pins were completely seized causing the rear brakes to effectively not work.

^+1. Rears are usually the worst due to the fact they're not serviced as often. That's why I use never-seize compound to lube the slide pins.

and my 2014 the Bottom pins on the front both sides were seized at 28,000 miles due to the fact that not enough lube had been used from the factory. The stuck guide pins warped both front rotors because the brakes never fully disengage. It is not just ford that has this problem its all brakes with guide pins

I just did mine- I used Raybestos ceramic pads -about $27 on Amazon. I turned the rotors-they had plenty of thickness. No dust now--but they do squeal in reverse. My pins were stuck from dried grease- got the good grease just for this.

My fuel economy went up 1.5MPG --from the stuck pins???? I check it all the time.

tuminator mentioned keeping the guide pins lubed---my grease was dried out - the pins were totally stuck. Anyone know--bad grease or bad seal or both? Thanks
