I've seen monitors and dvd players with powercords that plug into your lighter, but I'm curious how do you hard wire it? do you guys know of any sites that I could go to and read up on this?

I would suggest cutting the cigarette lighter plug off the monitor and DVD player and splice it stright to the cigarette lighter.
