Owner Notification Date: Mar 30, 2004
Number of Units Potentially Affected: 938789
Component Description: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:pEDALS AND LINKAGES
NHTSA Campaign Number: 04V106000    Schedule an Appointment

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Description of Recall Campaign: CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES ARE BEING RECALLED TO CORRECT A PROBLEM WITH A MALFUNCTIONING STOP LAMP SWITCH AND/OR ASSOCIATED WIRING. THIS MALFUNCTIONING COULD RENDER THE STOP LAMPS INOPERABLE OR CAUSE THEM TO STAY ON ALL THE TIME.
IF THE SWITCH AND/OR ASSOCIATED WIRING FAIL IN THE OPEN POSITION, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL NOT ACTUATE AND THE DRIVER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE OUT OF “PARK. IF THEY FAIL IN THE CLOSED POSITION, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL REMAIN ON, WHICH WILL NOT ALLOW THE SPEED CONTROL TO BE ACTIVATED. THIS COULD ALSO CAUSE THE BATTERY TO DISCHARGE.

DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE STOP LAMP SWITCH AND ASSOCIATED WIRING ASSEMBLY AND INSTALL A NEWLY DESIGNED STOP LAMP SWITCH AND WIRE ASSEMBLY. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON MAY 5, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT FORD AT 18003923673.[/b]
I never even heard of this problem before.. have any of you?

Yea, the stop lamp switch is an old recall, the harness is a new recall. I had the switch problem twice, they replaced it, and it went bad again. And the harness problem once. They didn't recall the harness until this month, so I got my money back from the dealership.
Should I take mine in? I know my BOO switch works fine at the moment.

I still have the flammable air filter in there too. I guess I should just make an appt.
Is that include my 1998 ford taurus se? I can't find a recall on the ford's website.
