Does anybody know how high you can brake torque in a gen3 duratec? I was out with my video camera and taped a couple runs up to about 80mph. Anyway, when I saw how high it was revving before the launch, I could only brake torque to about 1800rpm. Now, I was only giving it gas until I saw that the VAK kicked in and cut the battery, then I'd go ahead with the run. Is 1800RPM as good as it gets, or should I try for more and boil my trans fluid?

I always thought it had to do with the stall speed? Dont know, this isn't my area of expertise.

Torque convertors are designed to stall at specified RPMS... give or take a few. They are set and NOT adjustable. Torque convertor lock up is never an issue (unless there's a malfunction) at take off. Torque convertor lock up will occur once you're going around 35 - 40 mph, it just eliminates the little slip that occurs to maximize fuel economy. Hope this helps.... any questions?
