Hey all... I just want to say that I went ahead and stuck my foot in the door at Andy's Auto Sport (www.andysautosport.com) and challenged them to produce a Gen III body kit. Here is the email I sent them:
"Hello,
I first have to say that I'm very impressed with the selection your company has in aftermarket body parts, especially your body kits. However, I think that I should point out a market that nobody to this day seems to have tapped into, and perhaps could bring you alot of business.
In 1996, Ford introduced the newly designed Taurus that redefined automobile body design for the years ahead, continuing to produced the so-called "Generation III" until 1999. However, in the years since this car has been out, nobody has seemed to take this car seriously in terms of aftermarket body styling. Ford made a concept Taurus, called the Taurus Rage, which sported a race style body kit (I attached a picture of this car). Unfortunately, this car never went into production, much less the body kit.
Please don't take this car as some "family car" that isn't worthy of notice in the aftermarket community. Unlike the Honda Accord "Japanese Family-Car" (which has a huge amount of body kit selection), Gen IIIs (1996-1999) have never come with any engine with less than 3.0 L of displacement or 6 cylinders. Ford even produced the SHO Taurus which included a 235 hp 3.4L V-8 engine. All Gen III bumpers, sideskirts, and fenders are interchangeable and fit the body with little or no modification (There were small aesthetic changes between the 96-97 and 98-99 models, but nothing critical). Therfore, a market for ALL 1996-1999 Ford Taurus models, regardless of trim, exists when it comes to body kits. To say it shortly, a demand DOES exist.
Don't take my word for it. I have visited many forums and websites that focus entirely on the Taurus. I have seen so many posts of people asking about body kits for the Gen III, but its the same "Don't exist" type of answer. Therefore, I have chosen to ask your company to do something about this. Therefore, I have posted your website address and email in these forums, and instructed all to email a message verfifying their demand for this product. You may notice suggestions as to what style is demanded. Please take these seriously... This is your potential market and what they expect. Any moves to tap into it for profit is up to you.
One last note: I'm sure you've noticed that I've only focused on the Gen III Taurus. Well, as a GenIII owner myself, I'm partial by default to my car. You should, however, expect to see feedback from Taurus owners of all years about production of body kits for their cars.
I trust you are all professionals at your job, and you may have encountered customer inquieres such as mine in the past. I thank you for taking the time to read this message."
So, now I challenge all Gen III owners interested to email them a short message with the subject "Ford Taurus Body Kits". Just tell them you own a Gen III Ford Taurus and that you're a potential buyer. If you wish, give them a small description of the style that you're looking for (I went ahead and said the Taurus Rage style was cool enough).
