Anyone have any definate information on how the Gen 4 Vulcans (00'-03' not sure about power output on the 04') gained 10hp and 20lbft of torque (155hp, 185LbFt) compared to the Gen 3 Vulcans (145hp, 165LbFt)? Could it be the new/revised intake plenium? More? Something else?

I know I could go out and buy a chip (want to use 87) or get an exhaust system(parents drive this car, but considering) or a "cold" air intake (considering making one, already removed the silencer), but if I could get the additional power from the revised intake that would be great.

Thanks

Nick Saturday

I don't have much help, only correcting your numbers. GenIII vulcans have 170 ft/lb of torque, not 165.

Also, I don't know what else was changed in the engine (someone please help), but I doubt that the plastic intake added 10 HP by itself.

The intake is a better design and it is plastic so it is like having a factory phenolic spacer installed. I think I also read somewhere about the cam being slightly better.

Um, no. You're wrong.
Torque is 170 ft/lb @ 3250 RPM. I don't know where you're getting your numbers.

Go read your owners manual if you don't believe me.

Look into buying a Hypertech programer. If it's available, it contains two optimized tuning programs. 1 for regular 87 octane gasoline, and the other for 93 octane gasoline. You can set the tuning program and keep your fuel octane to remain at 87 while adjusting the Engine Rev Limiter, control cooling Fan On/Off temperatures, Transmission Shift Points, improve shift firmness, adjust the speed limiter, make speedometer corrections.

I think it's the only chip/non-chip that will allow you to run on 87 octane.

I put in my request for my model Taurus.

If everyone goes to this site, plug in your information. That way it will alert the company to produce a hypertech programmer for all Gen Taurus'.

Not quite true...I've got a 2000 SE with a Vulcan and I've got a metallic intake.

Hello Everyone
My poor bull was taken to charity...
anyways here is one of the deals... it was the msd type ignition. It throws out 3 sparks and also 96 they used coil packs instead of the regular type distributor over the GII
