I know TCCA doesn't endorse street races, but I gotta tell you guys about this one.

I was on my way home from my friend's bar (no, I wasn't drunk) and I caught a turning lane light with a red gen 4. After we turned we played around a little on the road until we caught a straight stop light. He rolled down his window and said "Hey, you got th 24 valves?" I said "Yeah. You wanna go?
" He was down for it, and the girl riding shot gun said something about the 'taurus race'. Anyway, light turned green and there was a little wheel spin from both cars (thank you 50 degree weather and torque strap
). Anyway, by 60 I had about 1 to 2 car lengths on him and still pulling so I let off.

I'm starting to think my mods have actually made my car quicker.

At the next light he said "damn, I thought my car was faster than yours..." then he asked me if I had done anything to my car. I couldn't get out the full list of mods before the light changed, but I told him to check us out. Maybe he'll join us and become another taurus enthusiast. We need more TCCA members in the south Florida area.

How did you mod your own Taurus? specifically the weather and torque strap you mentioned, I'd like to have more info on that mod and what it exactly does. Thanks.

I did a bunch of crap to my car.

I got a chip (Superchips), made my own cold air intake, relocated the battery, had an under drive pulley installed, had a 2.5" mandrel bent single outlet cat back back exhaust installed, installed a torqure strap(chained the motor to the frame via the exhaust manifold), removed my EGR valve, removed the rubber weather stripping and whatever that blanket is called that's pinned to the undeside of the hood(trying to keep the motor cool), had a shift kit and transmission fluid cooler installed, I use synthetic motor oil (Mobil 1), and that's all that I can think of right now.

I made the comment about the weather and the torque strap because all cars run better in the cold weather so that helped me (and him) out a little. Plus, with my motor chained to the frame, I don't lose as much torque through engine movement. I'm just grateful I was still able to spin the tires a little, even though I was supposed to lose all my back pressure, i.e. low end torque, when I got my cat back installed.

I have raced 3 g3 vulcans in my taurus so far, andall have been not too pretty. All the races were unprovoked by me also.

Good kill.

I think it's fun racing other tauruses. It kind of levels the playing field, ya know.

I think there was only one other taurus (3rd gen) that I raced. It was from a roll at around 45 or 50. I got right next to her, floored it, then layed off and slowed down to get next to her again. I had to do it a couple times before she figured out I wanted to race. Then I just waited for her to downshift and we were off. When I passed her she had this "wtf?" or "how the f*ck?" kind of look on her face that was pretty funny. My friend tried to roll down his window to talk to her after the race, but she turned instead of continuing to go straight. I don't know what engine she had, but it seemed like the vulcan because we passed her pretty easily. I only had a chip and a home made HAI at the time.

Yes, mikehalk we definatly need more South Florida members down here. I think South Florida is the import capital of the U.S. Somebody has to show them what we can do. I am hoping someday that a South East chapter is started up. If I had the time to get off work(hospitality business can be a killer on the scheduling), I would try to push it more. I don't have the time so I can't say much about starting a chapter. I love to see other Taurus' being pushed along at 6000+ RPMs. It kind of gives me that warm fuzzy feeling inside
