The 98 LX i am reviving now had one strange problem with the trunk.
The trunk lid does no want to stay up.
Getting in the trunk, it seems its some kind of x crossed spring steel
that holds the trunk up. Its not broke, bu somehow it must have lost
its tension.

Anyone replaced a trunk spring before?

Are both rods set in the highest position? If you look at the ends of the rods they're hooked into a bracket just outboard of the hinges. Move each rod into the higher slot if they aren't already. There's a loop on the end to make it easier to grip.

What notch are they on??? Raise each one up a notch, that will add tension, making it "pop" up easier, maybe even on it's own. If they are already up on the top notch, then you'll probably need to replace, but, I've never had to or known anyone that has.

Unfortunately I don't have access to my service CDs or I'd give you a pic and stuff.[/b]
With the information provided, i crawled my crusty old butt into the trunk and found the ring outside
the hinges.

There are only two positions. I put it on the second position on both sides.
Its better, but it still won't stay up.

I guess the only solution is to get another spring off a donor.

Its strange, this car must have lived with its hood and trunk open.
I had to replace the struts on the hood too for the same reason.
It had 178 K on it when i got it

My G2 had 188k miles on it when I sold it, and the kid in the next town over is still driving it with who knows how many miles, and AFAIK no issues with the hood or trunk like that. Either it was always open or never open :)
