G-3 Trunk Mount Cd

2853 Views 6 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  firespirit
Just picked up a nice 97 Taurus. It does not have the trunk mount CD player. The radio has the controls for the CD, when you press the CD button the display reads No DJ. My question is if I get a factory CD player will it plug into the "box" on the left side of the trunk and work? If so what years will work?

Thanks

Check out CD Changers Online. This link points to the 6 disc unit. There is also a 10 disc unit.
All of the g3 Taurus/sables came with these controls. However a lot didn't come with the CD changer. You can get an aftermarket CD changer, as long as you get the right connection for the car. And yes, you just need to plug it into the Left in the trunk by the wheel well.
Good luck!

Rather than a cd changer, you should buy an aftermarket head unit that plays MP3s and WMA files, that way, you never need to pull the CD carousel to change your cds around. Also, you control what is in the cd player locally, not remotely, so you don't have to go into your trunk to change a cd. Besides that, the Ford factory stereo doesn't amplify for s***. Get a decent aftermarket head that has a MOSFET 50 watt/channel chip in it. That will give you good sound quality, although it may be a bit more expensive. I have the Panasonic MXE CQ-983U, which you can find here --->http://www.crutchfield.com/S-chBA8W...s=0&c=3&g=300&I=133DFX983&o=m&a=0&cc=01&avf=N . This is an amazing stereo that offers great sound quality and a crapload of options. I fit about 12-15 cds on one burned cd, so I only carry about 12 cds in my car, total. The only thing you should remember when you install a new head unit, especially one with the MOSFET 50 chip in it (the MOSFET 45 doesn't really draw enough current), you need to upgrade the fuse in your fusebox. Since you have a Gen3 Taurus, you'll be looking for the fuse that controls the speedometer (if you install the cd player without upgrading the fuse, you run the risk of blowing the stock fuse and cutting out your speedometer). I think the fuse that is in there now is like a 3 or 5 amp. I would go to at least an 8.5 amp fuse. Don't worry about the wiring, the extra amperage won't affect it.

I just got a Neo Changer and it will be installed Friday night. This plays MP3s and everything. I will post pics Saturday!

CD Changer
Oh yeah, and if you're going factory from the junkyard or something all 96-99 CD Changers will work. I'm not sure about the g4 CD Changers though. You just need the right connector
