I have a 2004 Ford Taurus SE 3.0l. I was wonddring if anyone had any insight on what the black case/cylinder looking thing is inderneath the car on the rear passenger side. It is convieniantly placed right were i was wanting to put my exhaust tubing at. Can i remove it? What is it? What does it do?

Thank you!!

That's your charcoal canister for fuel vapor. You can move it if you can find a place. You will get DTCs if you remove it,.

I have a metal plate over my spare tire compartment(pointless to carry around a 15" rim for 18's) so i was planning on cutting the compartment out and moving that. Also, what are DTC's?

Sorry for lack of knowledge. This is my first Taurus and was just wnating to know abit about it.

Thanks

Really??? Even though all it has running to and from it are hoses to the fuel tank. I tracked down one hose and all it was was a vent hose in the gas cap compartment

Cannister disconnected / removed will cause the EVAP test to fail and set a DTC.
