We traded a 350 ford diesel for a 06 SE and it had 58000 miles. Took it on a trip to Oregon, and averaged 28 half miles to a gal. Is this about average? Except for the road noise we love the car!!!

Your profile shows 2006 with the Duratec. 2005 was the last year for the 3L Duratec in the Taurus, so you should have a 3L Vulcan.

28mpg is not uncommon on the highway with the Vulcan.

At 65-70mph with 36psi rear 34 front I get about 31 mpg. But then my foot gets heavier and drops down to 27/26mpg.

Road noise is likely due to the crappy Conti tires.

Welcome to the forums first of all, and like others before me have said, yeah that's pretty common gas milage. And the road noise is most likely coming from the tires as stated previously, their either cheap tires the previous owner put on it, or the dealership installed before they sold it to you.
