Hello, i just joined!!

Well, i have a 97 taurus gl, with 3.0 Vin: U

I have 2 ?'s

How many fuel filters on it? I know there one behind rear left door. Is there any others?

Next, when your going and you step on gas little to go up a hill or etc..i'm hearing a card shuffling noise like (almost sounds like a slight miss or something). Any ideas on that?? When i step on it from the start, i don't hear it! Only when i'm going and push gas down more (not WOT)

I thought the fuel filter was the same as the Gen IV's on the passanger side under the rear door?
The shuffling sound, is probably pinging. Some good fuel injector cleaner may help, or you my need higher octane. I am sure there are many other causes for pinging though, but none at the top of my head.

I am pretty sure there is only one filter and it is on the passenger side as described. I am pretty sure there is a strainger type filter in the fuel tank.

I started running higher octane in my vulcan after it got a lot of miles approximately 200K to combat detonation.

I might have found out what my fix is to the problem!

I went to auto zone today to purchase water pump, fuel filter, air filter, anit freeze, thermo stat, etc....

I just happen to ask what plugs i'm suppose to have in it! They said motorcraft double platnum!! Anyway, when i bought plugs last year, the morons at advanced auto gave me autolite plugs!! <_< So, i bought 6 more plugs (the right ones) 4.50 a plug!!!!
After wife gets home from work tomorrow, i'll see if she notices difference. I drove it about 2 miles, i could tell! But, i don't drive it all the time.

Autolite plugs aren't that bad. I think they're almost as good as the regular Motorcraft plugs. Platinum plugs are overrated IMO. They just last longer than regular plugs, but really, there's no difference in power.

IIRC, autolite and motorcraft are the same brand. Both owned by ford. The ticking noise is detonation - it happens only when the engine is under load, right?

There is only one fuel filter, underneath the rear passenger door. I have replaced it in my 97. There is the usual plastic mesh filter in the tank - the same filter that all in-tank pumps have. It is integrated into the pump itself.

BTW, welcome to the TCCA!

Platinum plugs are used to extend the plug life. DP's are not necessary, since ford's DIS system uses different polarities on either bank of the engine. OEM has two different part #'s, one for each bank, but most aftermarket just sell DP's because it's easier for them.

Platimun plugs are hotter than copper ones, so using copper will actually help detonation (but of course, they won't last as long).
