Anyone have this happen before what are the tell tales of this?

This is a ford product I myself got the taurus:)

Well anyways my mother needs help with her Cougar it was in this fall getting a new intake put on it cause it was plastic and it had cracked the intake cracked as soon and she started to leave the house so she turned around and parked it.
then it was towed to the dealer to get the intake installed 1000.00 later it was fine and ran better then ever. Then over the next month the low coolant light kept popping on and it wasn't even low? She took it too the dealer and said everything was fine they tested the antifreeze and said it was good till 40 below. Also they had added a little antifreeze? Well about the fist week in January it was -10 outside in Minnesota and thats without the windchill. She started it up with a loud whining noise from under the hood, with it running she thought it was just a belt loose. again the low coolant light is on again and it was not low I asked her if the jug was frozen but she had failed to notice. without thinking anything wrong since the car was running fine she started to drive it to work. The car didn't get any heat for the longest time she stated and then it finally stated to get warm when she got about 20 miles form the house. Then everything was fine. But the temp gauge didn't stop at the normal spot this time it continued to climb then she paniced and then went to a gas station to check it out. she opened the hood to look for something and she had said that the coolant bottle was overflowing. ANYONE with any ideas on how this happened?

I am assuming that you are talking about the 4.6 V-8 correct?

My 4.6 water pump had a similar problem, but I caught it in time and replaced the pump, a slow leak that was making it's way down the side and not falling straight down (Surface Tension) and most of it was burning off before it could be seen.

They are probably putting in brand new head(s) based on that price. Did you or anyone re-check the anti-freeze after the incident? Maybe the dumbasses just checked the a/f in the degas bottle right after adding fresh a/f.

If the water pump didn't fail on its own, maybe it was frozen up or airlocked. In either case, you'd have no coolant flow. Anyone know where the coolant temp sensor is on the 4.6? If it's not in the block, and you have no coolant flow, it's not going to warn you that the engine is overheating.
