Fog Lights On 2000 Sable Ls Premium

on 2000 sable, the fog lights can only come on with the headlights on. there is a lockout on the headlight switch to allow you to pull it out only in the headlight position. I modified the switch so it pulls out in any position. The problem is there is a relay somehow wired into the headlight circuit. I need to know how to jump or rewire so that the fog lights can come on without the headlights on all the time.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a wire you need to tap into the parking lights/side markers. I installed the Sable fogs on my Taurus and tried a couple of times to figure out which wire this is - I even went as far as getting out my service CD and looking through wiring diagrams but haven't figured it out yet. I haven't spent a whole lot of time on it though. Eventually I'll figure it out. When I do, I'll post about it.
If you find out before me, let me know.

I had the same problem on my Contour fogs. Here's how you do it. The Contour website mods section, has it spelled out in their mods section and it's the same. Basicly you have to get to the wiring harness going to the headlight switch. The way the lights are wired is they get power from the headlight line AFTER the switch. If you have access to a multi meter and can check for power in the wires with the headlights off, then on with the fogs off, then fogs on, you can isolate which wires power the fogs. The website has the mod, not sure if the wire colors are the same. You'll have to check it out. Scott

for some reason I want to say the wire you are looking for is brown but I may be wrong, I'd need to double check that. keep in mind though, that because its factory, your headlights circuit is able to handle the increased current when the fog lights are on, but your parking lights aren't designed for it and may not be able to. on my fog lights, I tapped that wire that is hot when parking lights are on (headlights too since the parking lights are always on with the heads) and I used that to energize a relay to give my fog lights switch power. so then the fogs turn on whenever the switch is on, but if the parking lights are off, the fog lights are off no matter what positition the switch is in. works great for me. I like to use the fog lights in lower visibility situations when running the full headlights is an overkill. anyway, I suggest you use a relay to power the fogs, and energize it off of the parking lights circuit, that way you don't have to worry about blowing a fuse and being without any lights at all when you really need some.

I am 99% sure that there is a relay built into the fogs on Gen IV's. My factory kit had what I think is a relay - and it is supposedly exactly what they use for the factory installed ones, so we should be good on that. Thanks for the heads up though... definitely don't want to overload anything!

If you could confirm the wire color - that would be most helpful, too! Thanks.
