my friends dad has a en 2 taurus gl, vulcan and i noticed something odd about it today... it has a floor shifter. just curious, was this an option that was offered back then? and if so, would it be an option for all those who want to convert to a floor shifter from the column shifter?

Yeah, it's been an option on all gens (even G1s with autos, but it's rare).

To convert a column shift to floor shift, it'd take some time and lots of parts. Mainly the shifter, console, and cable. You might also need the bucket seats and the steering column out of the parts car.

my 95 have a floor shifter, I like it much better, the 96 is column, it works, but its not nearly as fun, one of the thigns I was really looking forward to when I bought my 97 was getting a floor shifter, much better!

When we bought our 95 Sable LS wagon, all those on the lot had floor shifts and consoles, except the one we took. We wanted the full front seat.
Now, I kind of wish we'd bought one with the floor shift; I think the console helps to support and strengthen the dashboard.
