Hey all, i had an idea and was wondering what all of you thought about it... difficulty, coolness, etc.... I have a 99 bull and have the flip over center console, i am planning to put several mods *neons, strobe headlight, misc.* type stuff that require switches. i was thinking of modding that center console so that when i flip it over, that is where the switches will be. i was thinking of somehow modding that with fiberglass to make it exactly contoured to what i want. what would be even sweeter is if somehow i could put a dvd screen there *unrealistic for me right now* but hey it would be awesome i would think. anyways, your thoughts and expertise are exremely welcome...

If I'm thinking what you're thinking.. That might be cool - but fiberglass shatters *very* easily. I'm not a fan of fiberglass. Draw something up and post, I'd love to see your idea as a picture.

ahhh, good idea. might be a while since i don't have a scanner or anything, but i'll definitely post one up as soon as i can. u say that fiberglass shatters easily, what alternatives do i have besides fiberglass? i'm not too experienced in fabricating some of this stuff so it will be a learn as i go type of thing.

Ummm... you've been dealing with some pretty crappy fiberglass then.

A three-layer weave is extremely strong. Most of the "fiberglass-hatin'" that you hear on this website is from people talking about lower fascias and such being built out of fiberglass on a lowered car, and the glass breaks after they hit curbs and speedbumps.

Fiberglass, if laid properly, is extremely strong, and has enough give that it won't break. Keep in mind that boats, aircraft, and Corvettes all have fiberglass and resin gelcoat panels, not to mention Cobra S/C and other kit vehicles. If it works on them...

For an interior function Panther, glass will work fine. Take your time and make sure the bubbles are out and each layer of glass weave is at a 45 degree angle to the previous layer. Mix 1/2 Bondo and 1/2 resin and spread over the final layer, you can sand it like regular body filler.

Actually, I'm planning a one-off glass bumper on the rear of the next car.

sweet, thanks for the great help trueblue.. i'm a first timer so i think i'm gonna experiment a little before i actually try the final console. might be a while before i get started *knee injury, hard to do stuff yet* but i'll let everyone know how i'm coming along. i'm at the stage where my injury has me so bored i'm planning out a bunch of stuff i'm gonna do to the bull when i'm injury free

Bah! The two fenders on the intrepid were fiberglass. that cracked right in half. Then I was working on my clear tails.. the fiberglass broke on me!!! WTF!?

Clear fiberglass? Are you just using resin?

As for the Intrepid, that's just because it was Dodge fiberglass.

i'm not sure what u mean by clear fiberglass. bear with me, i've never done it before and i'm just kinda starting to figure out what to do. and besides that i'm not sure what everything is. so yah, explain?

Strobe headlights or random flashing headlights.. Well I had some headlight flashers, and from experience I wouldn't suggest them... BECAUSE you'll end up using them when you are not supposed to and that'll get you in serious s*** fast! I ended up taking mine out too avoid any further incidents.

I thought Ashley said she was using fiberglass on the clear taillights... and for some reason I thought the actual lights themselves were clear. I thought she had used just fiberglass resin, without the fiberglass weave, for something clear. :doh: Some fiberglass resins are very translucent, but I've never seen a clear resin yet.
