I have a 1998 taurus se DOHC and I wanted to have a factory keyless entry system so this past saturday I went to the salvage yard and picked up the factory keyless entry/anti-theft white module and wiring harness under the dash board and above the stering column. Two wires come from the GEM module and the rest come from relays and the large wire bundle. I know I seem CRAZY for not buying a after market system but I'm a fanatic when it comes to stock systems! Does anyone have any ideas? It looks some what easy when I look at the module and the harness, but then my mind gets messed up when I get under the dash board. Can any boby have some ideas EXECPT buying an after market system! THANKS TED

Im the same way BUT...

im a professional car security/audio installer....it would probbaly take me 8-10 hours to hook it up. all i can say is... buy the ford cd and have at it.

Brad

PS: you can have a keyless entry/remote start installed at circuit city for $200 flat, with a range of 2-300 feet, with an actual range of 100-150

or

you can have your factory system with a advertized range of 33 ft and an actual working range of 20 max.

nothings impossible...

you will need to supply:
constant power+
connect to the dlc~ (not neccesary...for programing only)
door swich unlock-
connection to gem? (current gem may not support)
reverse lamps+ (not neccesary at all)...used for lock comformation with horn
beep only
door lock input-
engine pin swich- (not neccesary unless using alarm portion of unit)
jumper? (there will be a jumper between two of the mins on the c253 connector
wich must be cut if using the security function, otherwise it must be
jumped for keyless only)
Ignition swiched power+
BPP input+ (for use with security only)
trunk release- (must be taped BEFORE realy)
Autolamp connection- (if you have them)
Illuminated entry output? (IIRC to gem)
ground-
output to instrament cluster theft light+
horn output- (use with alarm and keyless for conformation or to own siren)
a few more random lock signals to the gem....too tired to get into it.

Brad

EDIT: +=positive -=negitive ?=unknown/too lazy to find out ~means data or non solid state

8 to 10 hrs.. and u r a pro

just kidding..
guess it is a pita to put a stock stuff..
but why would an after market be easier.. and what specific after market stuff do you recomment for a gen 3 taurus (that did not have stock keyless entry & security)

I am just scared the circuit city guys might just mess up the electricals...

problems with electricals is the last thing i want in my gen 3

buy one new...made by audiovox or DEI (aka viper, rattler, etc)

if you are worried about circuitcity messing up your car, then dont get an keyless entry!...i mean, they only do it for a living, same with best buy!

lol...I dont understand....................

nothing against the guys there @ circuit city, but if they mess up i am screwed..
and i hate circuit city best buy etc for their after sales service/customer service..

Best Buy and Future Shop are the same company, and i know Future Shop offers lifetime warranty on systems they install... so if they create a problem, then they should also fix it.

That said, you can get remote start/keyless entry kits from Ford that can be added on. I have one on my car, and have installed a few others.
