I just picked up a M8 coupling nut plus a 100mm M8 threaded rod. Put it on the stud on the spare so that I could safely tie down the full size spare in the trunk. Actually good to have if you have a flat and need to put your regular tire in the trunk.

Excellent idea! I have a 2015 Taurus SE. I scratched the lip of my front left rim. Thinking about picking up a nice, clean used wheel/tire and then moving the scratched one to the "spare" spot. Your solution sounds great! One question...

Does the OEM wheel/tire fit underneath the trunk floor, or did you have to raise it?

Ordered a spare 18x7.5 wheel and TPMS. I will need a full size racing spare. Nice thing is that I know it will also fit the trunk. Just 20mm thicker. Don't want to forfeit a $1000 trip for a $400 tire/wheel failure.
