i know that the stock exhuast on a 96 vulcan is 2 inches but it that an ID or OD...i plan on getting a dynomax this weekend

It doesn't really matter. You're going to end up going to Pep Boys or Autozone and just trying out adapters anyway. I went through the enture rack of adapters before I finally found the proper ones for my application, in a configuration that would work.

the reason i needed to know is my friends dad is going to make me an adapter and put it on. and i wanted to let him know the size today...but thx for the imput
