Anyone with a vulcan ever put on a 40 series flowmaster with the resonator removed? if so, how loud is it? Obviously louder than the FM WITH the resonator. I want to remove my resonator, but dont know if I want to straight-pipe it, or put a cherry bomb in to keep the noise down. I DO like the rumble of the 40series with the resonator, but dont think I could deal with something louder. So basically it boils down to this....

flowmaster with no resonator(straight-pipe)?
or
flowmaster with cherry bomb resonator to keep the sound down?

I had the Flowmaster Delta 40 with a straight pipe on my Gen 2 Vulcan, and after a while the sound became very annoying IMHO, too much drone for someone who enjoys music lol. My Flowmaster right now is off, awaiting the right resonator, Cherry Bomb Possibly?

The cherry bomb is the same thing as a resonator, only it rusts out much faster.

EXACTLY. Cherry bombs or any other cheap glass packs suck.

Also, by getting rid of the stock resonator you risk making you exhaust a little raspy as well as a little louder.

Do you have a flowmaster now? I have a Flowmaster 40 Series DeltaFlow on my vulcan and, personally, I think it's just right. Perfect balance between good sound, but not so loud that it ruins music or anything. I didn't remove my resonator. Hope this helps.

thats exactly what i have too jason, but I wanted to know how much louder or any performance can be seen taking the resonator out. I love the sound of my FM 40. Are we talking horribly loud here?

The Flowmaster 40 without the stock resonator became unbearable to me after a while.

I had flowmasters added to the already exsisting dual exahust on my old Duratec. I agree...it became extremely annoying after awhile and I missed the original growl of the Duratec from the factory. It became to the point I didn't want to push the gas any more because I didn't want to hear it freak out. It was louder than a V8 mustang GT...

Thanks for the feedback guys! I was just about to ask the same question. I have a 2001 SE Duratec (all stock) and want the dual exhaust look. My idea is to add one FM 40 to the passenger side and leave the stock muffler on the driver side. My concern is sound-level. I know this is only a 6 cylinder - so don't expect a deep rumble of a V8 mustang or anything and definitely do not want the rasp of a ricer with cheap universal mufflers.

Any other feedback on other good mufflers? Other series of Flowmaster (50, 70)? Magnaflow?

Were you planning on getting a Y-pipe or something to make it functional duals? The vulcan actually has a low rumble that makes it sounds like a small V8, but the Duratec has a different sound to it, It seems to be higher pitched and does not sound as good with flowmasters. Flowmaster 50's are relatively quiet, I would say (based on hearing different FM series on other cars) that the 50 series might be what you're looking for.

Anybody out there have a FM 50 series on their 'tec??

Yeah... that's what I was afraid of. The Duratec revs pretty high and it may sound funny. I was hoping the high compression would make is sound beefier though.

Yes.. I was thinking a y-pipe right at the point where the pipe hangs a turn to go to the driver side and bring a short pipe over to the passenger side to get a true dual exhaust - one stock and another ???

I'd love to hear a flowmaster 40 or 50 on a Duratec to see what it sounds like before I do anything.. been searching for a good audio clip

I would have to believe that SOMEBODY here has a flowmaster on their 'tec. Might want to start a new thread with that in the title to help track somebody down.

I'm now very easy on the gas because my 40s just scream. It's annoying, but it sounds good. I hope to find a little quieter alternative soon.

I bought a new muffler also and i haven't installed it cause i'm afraid of what it might sound like. Does anyone have a sound clip of a FM 40 on their Vulcan by any chance??? That would be helpful

I have a FM 40 deltaflow with a full 2 1/2" catback exhaust (no resonator) on my 97 duratec. I only like the sound at idle, low RPMs and WOT. Other than that, it's raspy. If you're really concerned about how it's going to sound, keep the stock resonator.

If i had a way to record audio, i'd record a clip of my 97 vulcan for you. The only thing i have done to the exhaust is the flowmaster 40 originals muffler. Its my personal opinion though that it sounds NICE, at idle, normal driving, WOT, everything. I personally love it. I especially like cold starts when the idle goes up to about 1500 RPM or so. *drool*

BTW - No rasp at all. You wont find any rice on my car.
Also, when you first install it, you gotta give the muffler time to break in. During this time, your exhausts tone will change. Give it time though, itll eventually break in.

All you need is a laptop with a mic.

When it gets warmer my sister's compaq is going outside to become an exhaust recorder, ha.

Just ordered turbos off the summit website for my 00 tec, will let you know how they sound when they are installed. Just for kicks ill record what the stock sounds like for comparison.
