93 Vulcan.

Fuel filter was replaced last year, may have about 20K on it. Car only does this one out of every 6 starts, starter turns it fine, but doesn't turn over until after 2-3 seconds of hard cranking. Gets good air, just dropped in a K&N and blew out the airbox about 5K ago.

After starting, idles kind of rough for 10-15 seconds, almost like timing was slightly off, then runs/idles corect.

O2 sensor? Anybody with previous experience?

Hi! Look to some of these following things that you may want to check out or have checked.
Heat control valve stuck open.
Throttle position sensor out of adjustment.
Pcv valve stuck because of excessive oil blowback.
EGR valve stuck open or has a leaking gasket.

Does your ride Stumble or Hesitate on acceleration?

Later.....Angelo

Hey fellas, thanks for your replies.

Only when it has the tough start does it run oddly. It has had a lopey idle for some time, never seemed to affect drivability.

Battery has not been checked in about 35K, when I bought the car, had a brand-new DieHard with less than 1K on it. I'll check that tomorrow with the nice weather.

Plugs are Bosch +2's, they were replaced in about August of 03, along with new wires, cap, and rotor.

Engine does not stumble on acceleration, no hesitancy.

What's the code a bad MAF throws? I'll try heading out to Autozone tomorrow if I can, I have three oil changes to perform.

I haven't heard good things with bosch plugs in tauruii engines. Might want to swap for some motorcraf plugs (or autolite as I have heard they are the same as motorcraft)
