Did a brake job on my son's 99 SE with the DOHC this weekend. While looking it over I noticed the part of the EVAPS system that is bolted below the spare tire(not sure what it is called, may be a filter assembly of some kind) had a sticky oil like residue on it. The EVAPS system is disabled due to it having a leak and causing 171 and 174 lean codes. Just wondering what this unit is and why would it have evidence that it may be leaking something. I thought all it would have is vapor going through it. The residue did not smell like gas, more like a small oil leak that had collected dirt on it. I dropped it down and the top of it was dry so nothing leaked from the trunk down on it. Any ideas? Thanks.
