Hello everyone,

I hope everyone is doing well. I was doing fine for a while until this issue came up. My Check Engine light came on, so I took it to a buddy who has a reader. The code came out to some Evap Container issue. First of all, where the hell is the thing? Second, is this a common issue and what can I do about it?

The Engine light goes off for a couple of days, then it stays on for a week or so.

Any help would be VERY much appreciated.

Evap container is located on the opposite side of the exhaust, where you might find the second muffler if you had "duals" on the car. Black plastic holds it up. What's the code?

Alright, I guess I dont even have a clue what to do when I find it. Can I clean it out? Is this a common issue?

The ODBII code is P1443

P1443 Evaporative Emission Control System Control Valve

Sounds like the evap canister purge solenoid. I had a bad one on a G2 once.
The canister itself almost never causes problems.

Okay. What can I do about this? Is it an easy fix?

I guess, where do you think I should start?

I did locate the thing. How can you not, that thing is giant! Anyways, before I go ripping it apart, is there a diagram anywhere of how it should come apart or what exactly I should look for?

Thanks in advanced!

I don't have access to a 2004+ service manual. Maybe someone else does...

Can you add your car information to your User information please?

The canister purge solenoid on my G2 was under the front of the vehicle on the drivers side. Replacement part was a dealer only item. AFAIK, there are no serviceable parts on the canister itself. -Dan

Is the purge valve what is wrong with my car? Or is it the entire canister.

There may be two purge solenoids. One on the canister and one near the intake. Whatever they will have a wire and plug going to it. The firewall one needs vacuum too.

Could have a bad gas cap maybe?

Not the gas cap. I checked my old one and I bought a new one.

I suppose I will look around the internet for a little more info. It seems like not too often does this issue occur.

Thanks for those who posted and tried to help.
