I have a bad cylinder head (against the firewall) and I'm debating just replacing the entire motor with a lower mileage unit. My car has 120k on it and it's a fully loaded wagon.

I need opinions and a bit of direction.

I've pulled Ford Contour SVT motors out the top and it wasn't much fun. The Taurus motor looks about the same and should come out the top as well but I'm considering dropping it out the bottom.

Is there an easy way?

General consensus on a Taurus/Sable is to drop it out the bottom and separate the engine/tranny after.

I always pull them from the top, and seperated engine/tranny after. Never did a gen3 or 4. But can't be all that different from a gen1 or 2. Especially the large 90 degree 3.8. Comes right up

I took it out the top... just the motor.

There's room after you take the main crank pulley off. It was a little tricky since it was my first time but not too bad.

Ended up just getting a used low mileage motor from LKQ. Car runs great now. I really like the extra seats in back for the kido's.
