Hey All,


New to the forum so sorry if i was suppose to post this question in a different place...but I have a 03 Taurus SES with the duratec V6 with 30,000 on it and when I am in park I hear a ticking sound...Almost like a lifter or a rocker arm but not sure. I am not having any performance problems or trouble starting. I was wondering if anyone else has heard or experienced the same problem.

when was the last time you changed your oil? when my oil gets pretty worn out i can hear my valves opening and closing.

I change it every 3000 miles....I am just trying to avoid the dealer if I can...

If there's a problem it's still under warranty.....For 6000 miles or so. I'd take it in & get it checked.

If it's a Duratec, it's definitely not a rocker arm.....

If it is still under warranty (and it should be) just take it to the stealership. This would also help you if something came up later on (after warranty) with the same issue.

I replaced my serpentine belt and 90% of the ticking went away. The Duratec seems to tick even when brand new, probably because it has a timing chain, not a belt.

You just may be hearing the fuel injectors firing.

That's what I was thinking.

Just go out and get a $5 mechanic's stethoscope and pin point where the ticking is coming from.

Thanks guys for the Info...I will just take it by the dealer and see what they say. I will mention the belt. It seems like this was the issue for some of you.
