when I lock my doors using the keyfob, i hit the button twice and the horn usually beeps twice. today it started beeping only once. when i put the car in gear and drove off the doors locked......but it never did it before. it did it once, and hasn't done it since.

possible electrical issue? I don't know where my fuses are to check them.

The horn on my 02 taurus has always beeped once when using the keyfob and the locks have always automatically lock when I start driving.

From the owners manual:
When you press the lock control
twice within three seconds on your
remote entry transmitter, the horn
will chirp once to let you know that
all doors/hood and liftgate (wagon)
are closed.
If the doors/hood or liftgate (wagon) are not closed and you press the
remote entry transmitter twice to confirm the doors are locked, the horn
will chirp twice to warn you that a door/hood or liftgate (wagon) is still
open.

There is an autolock feature that can be enabled or disabled. Perhaps you or someone else accidentally enabled it?

Check out pages 91, 95, and 96 in the owners manual here: http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pubs/content/~WO2TAU/~MUS~LEN/41/02tauog4e.pdf

Deactivating/activating autolock:

There are 2 methods to enable/disable this feature. One through your
dealer and the second with a power door lock sequence using the
following instructions:
1. Turn the ignition key to RUN, then press the power door UNLOCK
control 3 times.
2. Turn the ignition key to OFF, then press the power door UNLOCK
control 3 times.
3. Turn the ignition key to RUN, within five seconds press the power
door UNLOCK control 1 time. Wait for a delayed horn chirp to confirm
the system has been altered.

Pressing the power door UNLOCK control button again will toggle the
Autolock/Relock states.
• Turn ignition to OFF to exit.

so all day today it does the autolock thing. double-click on the keyfob gives one beep. so i come in for the night, lock it up, double-click gives me double beep  i made sure all doors were closed, still double beep. i guess i dont really care as long as the doors are locked, but just curious to the quirks of my car.

nope, the dash is clear. wouldnt it ding if that were the case? I walked around the car, opened and closed all doors and the trunk.

whatever the issue is it's all tied together. double beep and no autolock, or single beep and autolock (door would ding if i opened it while running).
