I gota question here...

I was doing some browsing for Taurus' on ebay and I came across this odd one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...2&category=6238

It has the styling of the earlier g3's, the silver trim around the tach/speedo, 24v sticker, red turn turnsignals...whats goin on? Was this 99 (it checks out to be a 99 on carfax) a parts bin special or what? Any ideas?

AND while Im here...i think this guy is lying when he says this Taurus has 30K...

Isn't 99 the last year of the Gen 3?

You guys are pretty sharp noticing things like that. Just looking at the '99 without knowing too much about the differences in years, it could easily pass as a factory original to the untrained eye.

As for the white '94 Taurus with 30K alleged miles, I think it's possible, the car looks to be in very good shape, maybe some old folks owned it previously. However, the low mileage doesn't change the fact that it's still a 10 year old car with a 3.8L Essex engine which will probably need some preventive maintenance headgasket work done to it in order to make it a worthwhile investment for any potential buyer. The AXODE tranny is also 10 years old and I'm not sure if they were being built with the steel piston in the forward drum prior to '95, so that would be something for a buyer to consider as well.

I guess my point is that the sellers Buy-It-Now price of $5K seems a bit high, he might get half that when all the bidding is said and done, if the people do their homework.

I could believe the miles on the 94

The guy said he bought it at an estate sale. Old people die
It also has those AAA stickers on the bumper. Sure sign of old people.

No reason at all for it to bring what he is asking there is nothing rare about.

If you look at the VERY first picture the front bumper color doesn't match the color of the rest of the car. It's slightly faded.

The 94 more than likely has 130K on it. Either the seller does not realize the odo doesn't "show" that high of a number, or they are "lying". But, I will say more than likely he/she doesnt know. That car doesn't look that good for only 30k. Looks pretty worn.

Also the Gen3, what am I missing? Why does it have a duratec engine with a column shift? I thought all duratecs had the floor shift?

My dad's fleet 95 Taurus with a Vulcan has 44k on it. It's also been through a transmission already (of course, he was the one who drove it without tranny fluid for about a year, but that's besides the point
). The thing also starts as soon as the key turns, absolutly insane.

The 99 just had a front end swap, although it kinda makes you wonder why...

Probally a really late 99 model from when they were getting ready to switch gens.

Holy s***, I have the same mileage on my 93 Vulcan (44,000 Original Miles), and already went thru a tranny, and am preparing for the second to go out...

I've found many older cars with low miles I definatly believe it is possible.. I bought an older 86 buick century with 21k orig miles when I was 16. It was a fantastic car for it's age very gently used. Although I heavly doubted it, and only really bought the thought it was 21k from a carfax report. I'd carfax it and take it to a mechanic to have him look it over if I was prospecting to buy it.
