looks like a belt shroud to me but I do not know much about the duratec considering the fact that I have only been in a duratec powered car not more than 5 times and have never studied its engine compartment

Interesting... never realized the waterpump was on the "back-side" of the motor (opposite the other belt-driven components).

Thanks.
Ford moved it over to that side when the 2000 tauruses came out. No idea why, but on pre 2000's it is on the other side.

Actually it was moved in 2002. On the 2000 and 2001 it is still on the passanger side. :p

I have the 2001 - it is on the driver side. Interesting mechanics to have a single belt being driven on the opposite side. I wonder if an electric water pump is used if that pulley could drive something else.... like a small supercharger??? ;)

Ditto on my 1/2001 built duratec. The function of the shroud is so Ford has a place for the Duratec decal since they changed the intake on Gen IV's :lol2:

Yeah, it was 2000 when they moved it to the drivers side driven off of the cam. This is the same design as the 2.5 Contour Duratec. Ford got a lot of complaints about NVH with the 96-99 Duratec, so they changed some things for 2000 to make the Tec' quieter and smoother, and aparently this was one way to do it. I will say that my 95' Countour with the 2.5 was quieter and smoother than the 3.0 in my 99'.

OK I was off a year, my bad. My 2000 had it the old way then. The valve covers themselves said duratec, and there was coil on plug ignition. So the 2000 year was just a guinea pig year I guess. :lol2:
