I keep reading about known PCM issues regarding the burning of COP's caused by ignition drivers within the PCM. After performing the normal procedure for fixing my cylinder 6 intermittent misfire on a 2005 Duratec 3.0 engine, that is, new plugs, PCV valve, coils, checking resistance between the coil connector and the PCM, checking ground connection for the PCM, the only thing left is the PCM itself. On examining the connector to coil #6 I found that the red power lead and the lead that goes to the PCM seem to be 'welded together. No electrical contact but the plastic insulation may have got hot enough to melt together. Not sure as it may have come that way from the factory.

Can anyone elaborate on the known bad coil driver issues?
