I check autozone, and rockauto website, it seems
the speed sensor is located in the ABS unit, not
attached directly to the transmission. But many
people here said the VSS is hooked to the transmission
case on the passenger side of the transmission,
next to the exhaust y-pipe. Does my car have
two different speed sensors? confused.

A4XS/A4XN all have a VSS in the tranny, pass side. Some Fords use ABS signal for VSS, but not the Taurus.

If you car has ABS, there actually 5 speed sensors..... the VSS in the tranny and one ABS wheel speed sensoe at each wheel.

Sometimes the parts store terminology is way off from what you're expecting. You know what you want, but just can't find what they decided to call it.
