I've been debating replacing the coil pack on my son's 2001 Duratec. No chance my hand can fit behind the upper intake to get to it -- is it easier if the windshield cowl (or whatever it is called) is removed first? Or does the upper intake need to come off?

Might be able to do it by removing the cowl, but i have always removed the uim.

Are there torque specs associated with the UIM?

Yes, 71 to 106in.-lbs., but i usually just snug them in sequence with a 1/4in. dr. ratchet, ext. and socket. See a haynes or chiltons for loosening/tightening sequences.
