So I'm still tip-toeing through my head gasket repair and FINALLY got the valve cover off. Turns out the coolant channels are completely gunked up

But as you notice, the rear bank rockers are noticeably discolored, and have a bronze/smoked look compared to the front - what does that indicate? Anything else I should do while I have these heads off???

Actually, the valve train looks very clean comared to many I have seen. Even with regular oil changes with qualityoil, a bit of varnish forming on some parts is pretty normal. Rear head runs hotter, so more likely to develop minor deposits there.

Ah, I see. I was worried this was a sign of a "burnt valve" - whatever that means.

I bought the car at 75k miles, and have used Mobil 1 full synth and Valvoline. 5W-30. I put Seafoam in the gas tank once. Other than that I just drive like a bat out of hell...
