Doing maintenance on a 2005 3.0 OHV Taurus, and noticed a decent sized dent on the bottom-front of the trans pan.

I asked the driver about it (my mother in law) and it could have been there for months. No syptoms of a problem and trans fluid level is ok.

I don't know a lot about transmissions except for basic maintenance.

Can this be left alone until the next trans fluid change without any problems?

Can something like this be hammered out without warping the flange where the gasket sits?

thanks

If its not too deep and not leaking (fluid level ok) and its shifting fine, prob. be ok til next service. I would keep an eye on the pan and level for her until next fluid and filter change as often as you can. Might be able to carefully pound it out a bit then.

Depending upon how large a dent there is will decide if it affects the trans. Cavation is possible and that will destroy the tranny.
If it were me I'd be pounding it out.
