Cutting springs is abad idea from everything I've heard. Makes for a terrible ride and if i remember right can cause problems in the long run.

You'd actually save $$ in the long run if you just buy lowering springs. Cutting them will mess up your camber or something like that...You'd go through a lot more tires
ok thank you , just a thought
Well there was a big dicussion over in SHOforum about cutting the FIRST coil off of the Moog cargo coils for Gen2 - as they are variable rate springs and they might be stiffer than the Eibachs or Intraxs. However, since cutting off "x" number of coils gives you an unknown spring rate, you really can't predict how the car will handle until you've already put them in.
I'm with everyone else, don't cut the springs. If you do, you'll be stuck with springs that are the same stiffness, but shorter--you'll bottom out (or your buddy will). Lowering springs are shorter but much stiffer, fixing that problem.

Ever see a car (normally an import) lowered that bounces around off the ground a lot? That's what you get when you cut springs.
off topic

i want to lower my car but not just a little bit i want to do it around 2 in to 3 or so, just slamming my car, i think it would look awsome. I just need a way to do it and i will pay for the products not take the shortcuts.
thanks

I think Eibach makes a lowering kit fot the taurii, but IIRC, it is only like 1 1/2". I don't know of any other kit.
I have a front suspension drop of 1/2-1" or so, give or take, its hard to really estimate. no equipment needed at all, you can adjust the shocks, and drop them down as low as they will go. do that, then add the eibach lowering springs, you could probably see 2" easily. btw, where can you buy the eibach springs? I really want to drop the car lower.
www.ridetech.com I think is the webpage. Air Ride technologies.... Bag it. I posted about Bagging an 01 Taurus in the forums. You'd have to get the Air strut, and cut off the top of your old strut and use the mounting plates for that. It'll cost some money but if you wanna slam it that's the best way, plus you can raise it for speed bumps and stuff too.

Research it, it's probably the best way to go though if you want it LOW!

SHO's have the SARC struts, Vulcans and Duratecs do not. I don't think that you can do that to a non-SHO, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
I believe mcgilles is talking about removing the safety tab on the strut allowing you to lower the car a little more. (Search for cutting strut tabs)
