If this is linked to the speedometer problem in your other topic, then it's a good chance it's the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). It's located on the transaxle somewhere near the passenger side IIRC.

Good start; you might also look at the brake light switch and the vacuum dump valve on the brake pedal. If the dump valve doesn't seal, the cruise will never work.

There is a gear that the VSS is conencted to. That connects to another gearn and that one connects something else in the tranny and so forth. Anyhow when my speedometer started bouncing all over, then not workign til car was warmed up, then not working at all my cruise control didnt work either. I had a tranny shop replace the VSS (I couldnt reach it to do it myself) They also replaced that gear because they said it was ground (looked a bit ground)... yeah so it might be that gear. The gear piece is like 20-30 bux from ford so if your gonna replace the VSS you might as well do the gear. Honestly on the vulcan I couldnt get to the VSS so I paid 120 bux for the tranny shop to do everything.

Your lucky my cruise control went out , it caused a major headache. When it go's out guess what I found out it did? Atleast with my car. The car wouldnt shift out of park. I tried the brake pedal , the shifter etc....

I went to get in the car hit the remote pad , saw smoke from under the hood and BAM ! 200.00 later and it isnt fixed . Tow etc.....But the cars drives after the cruise control was unplugged. Who would have guessed?
