Here's the whole assembly with sensor at the top.
wow, that is completely different than the SHO. mine goes over the end of the cam journal and thats it. that looks like a distributor!

Thats because the Vulcan had a distributor from 86 to 95. When the Vulcan went DIS in 96, using the old dist hole in the block was an easy way to pick up a CMP signal.

At the dealer it is about 350-400 dollars to replace the whole thing. They are known to go bad.

If you are fairly handy and mark things well you can do it yourself for the part price only.

Stick with the Motorcraft part.

Wow, here in Florida, the Ford/Lincoln Dealer wants $500.00 Labor and $130.00 for the parts to replace this part on a 2003 Taurus ses!
They said they have to open the manifold to change out this part... Is that correct?

Thx...

No manifold removal isn't required on the Vulcan.[/b]
Thanks for the quick reply...

I just hate to think they are blowing smoke but you never know...
There must be something justified to ask for $500.00 labor for this install plus additional for the part...
Is there a technical report or manual on the process? I need mine changed as the car will just stop running when you light throttle the accelerator...

I'm not sure if this is the problem with my 2004 Taurus SE (Vulcan) but I think it might be. I hear a sound similar to the one that the other posts, with the sound, shows but not all the time, so I was wondering if this is the problem would my car throw any codes? I hooked a scan tool up to it but got no codes. I've checked the spark plugs, the fuel system, and changed the fuel filter and its done nothing to help my car run better. So basically I was just wondering if the cam synchronizer and sensor is the problem or if maybe somebody else knows what could be wrong with it

Replace the syncro shaft assy now before it fails, the oil pump stops working, and its new engine time. While the CKP itself may be good at the moment, it makes sense to replace it along with the syncro assy while you have it apart.
