Crap... Camshaft Position Sensor Is Hosed

i get the check engine light a while back and finally got the time to get the car checked out because is running rough...

the camshaft position sensor is chewed all to hell... metal frags and such have ground away the CMP and the syncro assembely...

anyone know what its gonna cost me to have it replaced? or has this happened to anyone else?

At the dealer it is about 350-400 dollars to replace the whole thing. They are known to go bad.

If you are fairly handy and mark things well you can do it yourself for the part price only.

Wow, here in Florida, the Ford/Lincoln Dealer wants $500.00 Labor and $130.00 for the parts to replace this part on a 2003 Taurus ses!
They said they have to open the manifold to change out this part... Is that correct?

I just hate to think they are blowing smoke but you never know...
There must be something justified to ask for $500.00 labor for this install plus additional for the part...
Is there a technical report or manual on the process? I need mine changed as the car will just stop running when you light throttle the accelerator...
