As some of you may or may not remember, my tranmission casing cracked some time in February this year. You can read about it here: here

It turns out that this happens because the differential ring expanding. It expands because the differential picks up metal shavings from the unit.

Why the metal gets into the differential is a different story:
I have a feeling it was caused by my intermittant neutral condition that I had or something more straight forward like not changing the tranmission fluid ever. Either way this, for this part I am speculating, but atleast I know what caused the crack.

Yikes, 7 years. I can only imagine how clogged the pan magnet would have been then. :eek:

Yeah thats the catch with buying second hand cars, all it emphasises is the importance of keeping the transmission well serviced in these cars
