Synchronizer and valve cover gasket

It's been done before, but I'll share todays adventure. I had a constant burning oil smell and the synchronizer started to squeek. It went mostly as expected based on info here. The body of the synchronizer ended up a few degrees off from the original-which I did not expect. The valve cover was pretty nasty-I guess the PO did not believe in frequent oil changes. I just have to put the UIM on and hook everything back up.

The engine isn't too bad. I've seen WAY dirtier. What does the inside of the oil pour spout look like on the front valve cover? Is the steel plate dirty? Just curious.

Thanks! It's all done. Started right up, and once the residual oil burned off it doesn't smell. The steel plate inside the oil fill is clean and shiny.
