Is it a bad idea to try and take the injectors out and clean them myself. If its not hard, how do i do it?

usually you can just take the car to a garage and they'll run a very potent cleaner through your system.

as far as taking them out and cleaning them...probably -- in the long run -- cheaper to let a mechanic run their stuff through them.

All that additives do is remove waxy buildup. They do nothing for debris.

The best way to clean the injectors is to remove them and have them backflushed. I do not know the actual process for backflushing, but Fred (Fredness) does. He actually collects injectors, flowbenches them, and sells them in "matched sets".
