First off, what happened to the eec tuning section of the forum, or whatever it was titled? Am I blind, or is it integrated into this forum now?

I don't really like starting topics that have been discussed a zillion times, like chips, but I'm looking for something different here..

I'm not really looking for performance, but mainly to see if I can change the one thing I HATE about my car, how the transmission acts. I absolutely can not stand the constant locking / unlocking of the torque converter. It pis$es me off so much, when I'm driving 30 I have to feather the hell out of the throttle and make sure I don't let off the gas completely or else the stupid thing unlocks. Same on the highway, but that's not as big of an annoyance, I just DO NOT feel the need for the tc to unlock all the time, it's extremely irritating. Plus, it shifts waaay too damn slow.

I'm a big fan of manual transmissions, but I'll drive an auto if it acts the way I want it to. I like the auto's with lockup tc's in volvo 740 / 940 cars, once it's locked, it's locked, It won't unlock till the gas pedal is almost near the floor.

So my question is, am I stuck with the way this trans acts? Or can I do something about it with a chip? I remember seeing Alberto from americanmotorsport around, did something happen, I haven't seen him in a while?

Thanks everyone!

Get an SCT chip from FPS. http://fordspecialists.com/
is that what you're running now Paul?
I feel so out of the loop after this summer!

I am starting to feel like I need to look into alternatives for chipping. Brian at Apten has been...for some reason unable to reply to my e-mails for...much too long. the chip I bought from him continues to have problems. I have to do something about it sooner or later.

Yes I now have the FPS?SCT chip. Ford Chip and Apten could not get the TC right. It was either that or pull the tranny and go back to stock.

FWIW the FPS/SCT chip has much better programming in it for the SHO at least. Best I've seen for the V8.

That was my biggest complaint about my '95. I loved the car but it felt like I was driving a 4-cyl.

sounds pretty good, I talked to Doug for a while about his computer technology while I was having my cams done. do you have any idea about performance numbers with it? or were you mainly using the chip to keep all your mods working well together? I'd really like something that would add some horsepower, I'm desperate for ideas on how to get some more performance out of it

Brian no longer works at Apten.

You should get a chip from us at www.americanmotorsport.com

We are he official chip sponsor for this site and everyone is really happy with our chips. We also posted several dyno graphs from TCCA member cars on this forum showing power increase.

Programming a V8 vs a V6, etc, as long as it is a Ford, isn't that much different. The number of cylinders and displacement is but a value in the EEC.

Where can I see their numbers for the SHO? I want to compare them to what we got for the SHO, which I posted here and in SHO Forum.

americanmotorsport: Can you do something about my transmission to make it less shift happy? Or are you more of a performance chip maker? I'm not looking for extra performance, mainly just to make my trans and torque converter act how I want it to.
Thanks

For now you can't see the numbers. I'm not going to pay for a dyno session to prove someone else's chip. And I did not see that impressive of gains over either the Ford chip or the Apten chip for peak HP with the graphs I have seen. Almost all claims of higher HP WRT the V8 SHO have the peak TQ at a shift point or when the TC is locking. These IMHO are skewed numbers.

I am not saying the actual HP is greater than the other chips. I have got consistently just under 200 hp on the dyno with both the Ford chip and the Apten chip. My car ran near 185 hp without a chip. But there are some programming tweaks that really liven up the V8 SHO and improve the drivability over the other chips I have used.

I do not have one of your chips Alberto and I do not personally know of anyone who does have one on the V8 so I cannot really judge your work.

AFAIK, FordChip, Apten, and us, we lock the TC on the dyno and run the car in 3rd, so it cannot happen when the TC is locking, for it starts locked, or at a shift point, for the car is locked in 3rd on the dyno.

Tell me how do you lock the TC and them make the run? My TC will go through the unlocked/locked cycle through both 2nd, 3rd and 4th now.

Do you have the link to your dyno charts?

well crap. that would explain alot. anyway, I may be interested although I also like Doug's work at FPS. is there any chance you could use the same hardware I already purchased from Apten (Diablo Sport) and just reprogram it so that it might work? or am I looking at a whole new chip?

What I meant by that was less of a tendancy to want to downshift.

What I'm really looking for is to stop my tc from locking / unlocking all the time. I want it to stay locked when I let off the gas completely, instead of unlocking and I want it to stay locked untill it needs to unlock for a shift. And if it would be possible to make it harder to downshift, and have firmer shifts, that would be exactly what I'm looking for, and the car would be perfect, well as perfect as it can be without an MTX.

You cna only do this on the dyno, or the car will just lay down off teh line. This is done via a software switch. It is done only for purposes of dyno, to get accurate readings, and is reversed befor eteh car gets unstrapped. It is only to have the car not shift and not have TC flash.

DOn;t you have your old dyno charts? I posted some here a while ago.

I can do this. I just did somethign similar for a guy with an Escape. I would dial in my own shift schedules.
