Center Console

I'm not sure about this, thats why I'm asking. Will a Gen4 Center Console fit in a Gen3?

I've been searching the local salvage yards here and I'm not having any luck finding any, and before I do find one , buy it and get home and find out that I can't use it, so I thought I might ask.

And has anyone else swapped there Center Console?

Ohh! I forgot to mention I have a column shift with the extra seat/flip console.

I was wondering about this mod too, as I really like floor shift and am beginning to hate the console shifter.
There are 2 kinds of gen4 consoles one has the shifter on it and the other doesn't. I have the nonshifter one. I have thought of putting the shifter one in mine, but haven't been able to find all the parts needed let. You need the console, the shifter and mounting brackets, and the steering column top panel. Then you have to pull up the carpet, cut it, mount the brackets and shifter, run the lighting wires and then the transmission cables and wires, Take off the column shifter and mount the panel and then connect the cable that locks it in park unless the key in turned and the brake is on, then put on the console. I think that is all of it and how it is done. I haven't done this mod yet, but i would like to. Someone correct this if anything is wrong.
What I'm looking for is what types of Consoles were available for column shift Gen 4, cause I currently have the Flip Up Console in cloth in my 98 Taurus and I don't like it, and I'm looking to replace it but the Plastic Console that was offered with the Column Shift Gen 3's are hideous looking, and was wondering if Gen4's were different and if they would bolt right in
I gave a 1997 Gl with the column shift. I took out my flip fold console and replaced it with a 2000 console. It is a hard console like the floor shift, but without the shifter. Also the g4 flip fold console will fit. It just takes the 4 bolts. Just watch ebay and search for taurus console and you should find something.
I've been planning to do a column to floor shift coversion too. (gen3)

I hate column shift...It's only on those that i've looked out the back window to back up and then lurched forward cuz i was in the wrong gear.
Never did it with a floor shift.

HAHA!! Same here!

I'm wondering how much trouble it would be to change the whole dash (from a salvage car) just to put in a console shift in a gen 3. The whole thing, if I'm not mistaken, is one piece. Way to go Ford! LOL
Apparently a whole lot. Dash, center console, duct work, cables and probably other stuff that ya find out half-way thru the project.

It is one peice for the center part.
Hey that's not bad. Only thing about installing the later one and not redoing the dash is if you ever resale it people will know it was a custom job.

Would a Console Like this one... mount in a Gen3 that currently has a column shift? I like it cause it's got more storage than the one I have now
